As I welcomed this little lady into my studio one last time as her baby photographer I couldn’t help but be a little sad that this might be my last time photographing a little one for this wonderful family. I have had the privileged to work with them for many years as they have welcomed two little boys and this perfect little girl into their family. There kids are the absolute cutest and even more than that they are so much fun. It is sad to think this might be my last session with them. Some clients try to urge me to continue with them as their family photographer. I always tell them two things. First, family portraits are best done outdoors in our beautiful state. While I am trained to take beautiful studio portraits I am not great with actual sunshine. Second, it just is’t where my talents are and I want my clients to have the best. So I refer families to my own family photographer Connie Riggio Photography. Ava was a little charmer at her session which of course makes it super sad to know that I won’t photographer her again. Unless of course we can convince her parents to add to there family. Which I think is their duty since they make such amazing kids! It made me smile when Ava’s mom told me about a compliment their son’s principle had given her. It is no surprise to me. These parents are genuine good people and I have no doubt their kids will be the same. You are a lucky girl Ava! Happy Birthday!

Last week I got to meet baby Theo. Which means I had my favorite family from Ravensdale at the studio. I love the Thompsons. They are my kind of people. Easy going, happy people that enjoy experiencing life and friendships out of life. What a lucky little boy to be born into such a family. I especially enjoyed catching up with Theo’s big sister Clara at the session. She is a whole lot bigger than the tiny newborn I photographed so many years ago. She was a very attentive, sweet sister. She makes up songs for her baby brother 100% on the fly and they are darling. I wish I could remember what she sand to him, even just a line or two. But they were absolutely perfect songs. What a lucky brother. Clara was such a good helper I am especially excited to share the wonderful sibling portraits I got during Theo’s newborn session with his mom and dad. Look at this great big smile! Don’t you think that will melt this mommy’s heart?!

Layne is the second baby boy that has come to see me for a newborn photography session this year. I have had a string a beautiful little girls. So it was nice to take s break from pinks and headbands and photograph a little boy. Layne was such a great little champ at his session. I even caught him in a smile, which is the holy grail of newborn photography. It means being super lucky and having your camera out at just the right time. Layne even opened his eyes for a few super sweet awake shots too. One of my favorites is a portrait with his mommy where he is awake and sharing a little grin. I’m not posting that one though, because I want it to be a surprise. The teals and blues his parents choose for his session are perfect together. His session images will all look great and cohesive together which is super important. If they choose to create a wall display or an album with Layne’s newborn portraits it will look amazing. I couldn’t title Lily’s blog post “cake smash” for the simple reason that there wasn’t one. Lily like a few other little ones I have had in my eight years of being a baby photographer hated her cake. There is something about cake that babies just don’t like. I have wondered about it a lot and my scientific hypothesis is that these cute little people are very uncomfortable with the feeling of frosting all over their hands. I would like to coin said fear as Gooeeyphobia. So we didn’t get any cake smash pictures and that happens some times. That is why at birthday milestone session I do a few traditional portraits before we break out the cake. Look at all of these great pictures of Lily that we got before she had her “It’s my party and I can cry if I want to” moment when we set her down in front of her birthday cake. Good thing we got these first. And it isn’t so bad. We packed up the cake and Lily got to bring it home to share with her big brother. All is well that ends well. Sometimes cake just isn’t your thing. I wish that was my problem. Unfortunately, I love cake. And hate the gym. So, yeah…not so great. Happy birthday little lady. Baby S is a living dolly. She is just the most perfect thing. Can you believe her hair? And she is just a week old. She has more hair than some one year olds I photograph. It was so wonderful to be a part of the celebration of her arrival. I even got to meet one of her Grandmas! At little S’s session I really wanted to capture a connection with her parents. I took a portrait of her in the protective and loving hands of her mom and dad. Then I got some amazing shots of them all together. I think they would make a beautiful wall collage! Little S looked so pretty in the teals and purples her mom choose for her session. I always think that these little babies that I photograph are going to grow up someday and be SO thankful their parents hired a professional photographer to take beautiful pictures of them as newborns! I know I wish I had gorgeous pictures of myself. Welcome to the world little princess! I know you will be very loved!
