Babies are amazing learners! One of the reasoning I love photographing toddlers at their one year birthday milestone is that it truly is a celebration of a lot of achievements. In one short year your little one has learned to do some pretty amazing things. I love this chart from Bump that puts all of those milestones into perspective. The best part about a cake smash photo shoot is that you can truly see and capture the beginnings of a child’s personality. Emilia has an easy smile. She likes people and she she is a happy girl. Photographing her was a lot of fun. My mission was to get her awesome dimples to break through in at least a few of her pictures. I can almost always get a baby to smile. But once I put my camera in front of my face all bets are off. That darn piece of technology keeps me from being able to interact in that moment. So thank goodness for parents! I always have mom or dad right behind me trying to coax that elusive smile out. Emilia did a great job at her portrait session. She even liked her cake. Well to be honest, it was more the frosting that was her cup of tea. I am super excited to share this sneak peek of her milestone session.

I was so excited when I had a message come in from Lyndi asking me to be her Ravensdale maternity photographer. She is a client I just clicked with when she came to me a few years ago to photograph her first pregnancy and newborn. There are some people in the world that just have a calming and happy presence about them and Lyndi is one of those. It is a pleasure to work with her. I am so excited to see baby Clara all grown up when she comes with her family for newborn portraits next month too. I want her to tell me all about her new horse. Lyndi looked stunning at her session. She brought some great outfits of her own from home that fit her little baby bump perfectly. The trend for fitted maternity clothing is so spot on. Lyanna came to see me last week for a baby milestone session. Doesn’t her name sound like a movie star’s name. I have never heard it before and I think it is so so pretty. I had to look it up because I was curious if it had a meaning that was as beautiful as it sounds. It does! It is a French / Hebrew name and in those languages means: God has answered and the girl who has a beautiful face. As the very first gift her parents gave her, I think they did an excellent job. Her name will play a big role in her life, and she will hear it spoken every day. It is a good thing it is such a pretty one. A pretty name for a pretty girl.

When you are pregnant so much of you is someone else’s. You own body is splitting it’s attention between you and the little person you are growing. Your craving are not your own. Your body is not your own. Doctor’s appointments are only half about you. The focus and plans for your future become less and less about you. Pregnancy is the beginning of motherhood. And motherhood is the most selfless occupation in the world. One of the reasons I love offering maternity sessions to women is that I strongly believe that some things need to be about YOU. You can not ever give up all of yourself. A healthy, happy person does things that meet their own needs and bring them happiness and joy. A reprieve from giving your all to someone else. At a maternity session I have an opportunity to spoil moms to be. My goal is to make sure they know how beautiful and amazing they are! I want my moms to feel like Goddesses of strength, grace and beauty. Laura and Abuna came to see me last week and I am so happy with the portraits I created for them. I hope Laura that when you look at these pictures you feel the inner strength in you the is motherhood and the inner beauty in you that is womanhood. You are beautiful. You are fierce. You are divine.

Ava came to see me last week for her sitting milestone session. Here she is as a newborn baby, in case you photograph how totally adorable she was from the very start. I swooned when she came in for her newborn session. And she was so good we got so many perfect pictures, just like this!
It was so great to see her family again. Especially her big brother Aidan, who is always such a big helper. It is a good thing he came to his sister’s session too. Not only was he a good helper, he was the only one that could coax a smile out of little Ava. She was having a serious day. But thanks to Aidan we got a handful of super cute smiles. Older siblings are the best. What is incredible is how fast these sweet kids are all growing up. In just a few shot months I hope to have this little princess back in my studio for her birthday portraits. She will be walking and babbling soon and her mommy will be so glad she has these beautiful portraits to remember her daughter’s babyhood. Can’t wait to share all these pretty pictures.
