Little Josie is in the best hands! She has two amazing big brothers who are going to take the very best care of her. It was such a pleasure to have this wonderful family in the studio for Josie’s newborn portraits. They came to me from Lacey for the very special day. I love that I get to celebrate the arrival of new babies into families during a portrait session. It is such a privilege to be part of such a special time. Josie is so tiny and it felt so inspiring to hold a tiny human in my two hands. She is so perfect. Her mom was all about the pinks to herald in the arrival of her daughter. And flowers! We tried to use lots of flowers! My favorite part of Josie’s session was photographing her brother’s interaction with her. They were so gentle with her. And even though little brother wasn’t 100% sure about me and the camera you could see he was 100% into his little sis. Sweetness overload! I have so many favorites from her session it was hard to choose which ones to sneak peek. I am so excited to mail off this session package to this wonderful family!

Delilah is celebrating her first birthday! What a beautiful and sweet little toddler. I am sure she makes her mommy and family so happy. She was a pleasure to work with and loved everything except taking a bath after her cake smash, lol. But she for SURE needed one. It is always especially fun to have a toddler in the studio who really goes for it during their cake smash. The stickiness of the frosting often times makes toddlers pause and think better of getting messy despite the yumminess presented to them. I have even had a few kiddos that are so terrified of the mysterious confection presented to them that the best we could do is get them standing or sitting next to it. Little Delilah though was all about it. She had herself a wonderful time destroying the beautiful cake her mom had made for her first birthday. We were also able to get so really beautiful and classic portraits of this little princess in the darling rompers and outfits her mom brought along to her session. So pretty! And that smile! She is a total princess. I am pretty sure that Mom is going to love this first image! It is my personal favorite. I love the tone of the colors, her perfect smile and happy eyes and just the sweetness of this little beauty giving that teddy bear a squeeze! Being a baby photographer is a really sweet gig!

If only our babies could ever know the sacrifices we make to bring them into the world. Maybe our daughters will one day understand. But our sons I think can never know and never understand. We give up our bodies, we give up our comfort, we give up our peace of mind. Those first nine months as we carry them are only the very beginning. We are never again just our own. As we give birth to the tiny humans we grow we give them a piece of us. Not just our hearts. All of us. And it will never be our own again. So why do we do it. Why do we put ourselves through nine months of anxious worry and years to come of joys, sorrows, triumphs and pain? Because it is what we do. Us woman, we are life bringers. It is our sacred duty. We do it for all of the highs knowing we will travel through many lows. Bringing a baby into the world is the most selfless act in nature. Some might argue losing your life would come first on the scale. But by giving a life your own belongs to someone else. Your whole existence is shared. Look at this absolutely perfectly beautiful baby boy. What a miracle he is. What a gift. Was he worth nine months of discomfort? Is there even any question? Women, mothers, are just the most amazing super heroes I know!

Palmer’s family came to me from Tacoma to capture beautiful newborn portraits of their precious baby girl. Born a few weeks before Christmas she was my last baby of 2019. I like to think that I went out with a bang because she is so cute that her images are just absolute perfection. Palmer is the third daughter for this wonderful family. I have three daughter’s as well. There is a special vibe that comes with a house full of girls. In our house that means lots of singing and dancing together. I wonder what the mix of joy will be for this family as their girls get older and find their talents and hobbies. My internet has been down for the last forever and we finally got it back up and running today. So I am frantically finishing up all the little details for Palmer’s session like her, slideshow, blog post and mobile app so that I can mail off a package this afternoon. Her family has been so patient! I am so very grateful to work with wonderful people and to provide beautiful images of their brand new babies to them. I know that what I offer becomes a cherished part of a child’s beginnings, and that makes me so happy!

My favorite time of year to photograph a newborn is during the Christmas season. First because I think it is EXTRA special to have a brand new baby join your family for Christmas. Second because there is so much fun to be had with posing and styling a session with the Christmas holiday in mind.
