Bound For Peru!
Emily and Rachel have some great news! They are going to PERU! The stress of registration is over. They both grabbed spots to their first choice of mission trip and will be headed to Lima Peru to build a school on July 12th!
Thanks to all of you and your amazing support the last year and half they have almost raised all the funds they need. This will be their last fundraiser session together.
In less than 100 days they will be headed south of the Equator on the greatest adventure of their young lives (I am SUPER jealous in case you were wondering).
When you come to visit us for Easter portraits you are welcome to bring candy bars or deflated soccer or volleyballs for them to share with the children they meet. They girls will have a little donation bucket handy.
Can you feel their excitement?
Easter Minis…
Here are the details for Easter minis this year.
We have a special visitor coming to the studio. Nutmeg the bunny is super excited to meet all of your children.
Mini session spots are $20 for a 10 minute time slot with the girls. This includes one digital image. If you want more than one picture please bring cash with you to the studio. Each additional picture is $20.
When choosing outfits to coordinate with the set, pastels will look best.
Images will be edited on Monday and delivered on Tuesday, April 4th.
-Babies must be sitting. If they aren’t sitting then please don’t schedule until the next mini session.
-One child per image. If you want sibling photos you have to reserve a spot for each child on their own and then an additional one for the sibling photo. (for example if you have three children and what a sibling shot then you need to reserve 3 time slots)
-Because bunnies can bite and scratch no one will be holding Nutmeg. He will sit on the prop next to our little guests. The kids can pet him and check out his cute little wiggly nose. We wont be feeding him treats either, so don’t promise your kids they will be holding or feeding the bunny. Following these rules will keep Nutmeg and your kiddos safe during their visit to the studio.

When I had my first baby I couldn’t stop myself from pushing my son towards milestones. I tried helping him learn to sit, we practiced walking as soon as possible, I corrected all of his sweet little baby words. I was in such a hurry to rush from one milestone to the next. With my last baby I had finally learned how to make the most of motherhood. Who cares how long it took to potty train, that’s what pull ups were for. Why was I in such a rush to have her walk? By then I knew that a sitting baby is the holy grail of parenthood. I was in love with her sweet baby words, why would I want them to go away, they would in time and I would miss them. By baby number four I had learned to enjoy the moments and let time run it’s own course. One of the reasons that I love limiting my baby milestone sessions to sitting and birthday portrait sessions is that I feel it does help slow down the clock. I remember constantly booking appointments at Sears (because they were the best when I was having babies) for pictures. I was constantly busy. Those pictures were all so cheesy and absolutely did not represent my children during their babyhood. When I photograph a baby I want to include their toys, their favorite things and I want to see who they are shining though the images that I create. Often times, I have moms tell me that their baby has this certain little quirk. I know that my goal at their session is going to be to capture that on camera. Teddy’s parents hired me to be their Auburn baby photographer because they trust me to do that. Little Teddy had come to see me as a newborn and it was so wonderful to see the adorable little toddler he has blossomed into. I photographed him with his favorite books, his favorite truck and his families heirloom teddy bears. These pictures will have extra meaning to him and his family because I didn’t just put him in a bucket and snap a picture. Including Teddy’s favorite things makes all the difference.

As I was wrapping this little angel’s newborn photography session I asked her parents for her birth info. I also get birth info from parents so that I can create a beautiful slideshow of the images from there portrait session. This little lady’s name is Matilda Rose. Is that not the most stylish name you have ever heard? I told her mommy that with a name like that she is destined for stardom. I fully expect to see this porcelain doll walking the red carpet someday. Oh course, lol, Matilda Rose could just as well be the name of a star softball pitcher. I have my eyes out for this little girl. I have been this family’s Lacey newborn photographer for both of their children. Liam, their first, is all grown up now and very excited to have a brand new baby sister. He was so sweet to her. My favorite part of this session was getting big brother all posed with his little sister and hearing him quietly sing to her. I wish I had written notes on the words of his song. Something about how he is a big brother and she is his little sister. I am dead serious when I say it is one of the cutest, sweetest and totally precious moments I have ever witnessed. If only you could capture that in a photograph. Some moments need to be written in the heart. I hope that when mom and dad look at the images I will send them of their baby girl that the memory of their sweet son softly singing to his baby sister will come flooding back to memory. That is the miracle of memory. All it takes is a trigger. A song, a photograph or a smell; memories unfold and all the good good feelings that have been stored up in the mind come surging forth and overwhelm you with pure happiness. So, without further ado…here are my favorites from Matilda’s, Mila to her family, newborn photography session. Let all the good feelings come!

You don’t know how happy it makes me to get a call from a past client looking to book another newborn photography session for the newest addition to their family! Being able to be a part of a family as they grow is such a wonderful experience. I am always super happy when families are adding a baby to their family and the new baby is a girl when there first was a boy and vise versa. I think that girls and boys offer such different things to a family that it is a real blessing to have both. When I found out that a little girl was on the way for the H family I was so excited. I laughed a little when I read their answers for color preferences. Pinks and purples! Clearly this family was excited about the little princess that would soon join them! Preparing for Lilian’s newborn photography session I realized that I need to build up my purple options a little bit more. Especially in the headband department. Time to put in some hours on Etsy looking for the perfect pieces. I tried a pose at Lilian’s portrait session that I haven’t done in years. In the newborn photography world we call it the potato sack pose. That isn’t a very glamorous name for such a cute little pose. I love it of course. I think next time I need to try it with my little baby bear hat and a teddy. I am so excited to be sharing a sneak peek of this precious angel’s session with her Mom and Dad. A friend asked me over the weekend what my goal is for each of my sessions. I told her, no joke, that it was to have moms cry when they see the images of their babies. So here is to hoping that these perfect portraits bring happy tears to a wonderful mommy.

When clients contact me to book their baby’s cake smash session sometimes, in fact most of the time, I sit there staring at the computer wondering how on earth it has been a year since I did their baby’s newborn photography session. This last week I have been glued to the computer watching a live video stream waiting for April the giraffe to have her baby. It feels like I have been watching forever, time has moved at the slowest pace possible. That slow passage of time is mimicked in April’s pacing back and forth in her stall all day. But for Kellan’s family I am sure that time has passed quickly. I envision Mom and Dad have quite the workout every day chasing after their little man. So many wonderful milestones have been hit as this little guy has charged into toddlerhood. Before I get to sharing the images from his birthday portrait session, here is a little reminder of the perfect sweetness that Kellan was as a newborn. Click HERE. Mom and I were both expecting her hungry little guy to dig into his birthday cake. Maybe it was the feel of the frosting, or his preference for blueberries, but Kellan wasn’t having it. Naturally I still got some great photos for his family.
