What a beautiful name for a beautiful baby girl.  I think I love it because it sounds so Irish to me.  And I think everyone knows how much I LOVE Ireland.  I love unusual names as long as they fit a few criteria.  They must be pronounceable to the general public.  This little lady scores easily there as her name is very phonetic.  I personally don’t care for names that are gender ambiguous.  And you couldn’t get a more feminine, lovely sounding name than Fienna.  And it has to be pleasing to say.  And this sweet name just rolls right off my tongue.  Not that it matters at all what I think anyway.  But I keep a little mental list of names of love from the babies that I meet in case one day my children seek my two cents when naming my grand babies.  Fienna is on the list!

As this families Puyallup newborn photographer I styled their daughter’s session with greys and purples as requested.  I haven’t gotten to use purple in a long time, so that was a special privilege.  (I get tired of pink)  Fienna’s mom was super excited about trying for the hanging shot that I do.  And since we were doing purple that meant I got to use my very favorite branch.  Wisteria for the win.  She looks so lovely hanging off of such a beautiful branch.  I hope mom prints that image big to hang above her baby girl’s crib.  Such a pretty shot.

Seattle Newborn Photographer ~ Reese

Seattle Newborn Photographer

When you are a Seattle newborn photographer you get to meet a lot of families.  This family is one of my favorites.  They always trust the vision that I have.  This is the second baby girls that I have taken portraits of of for this fabulous family.  And both experiences on my end were really wonderful, I hope they feel that way even more than I do!  So, what makes a family so awesome to work with?  Mostly it is as I said before.  Trust.  When a family trusts you to create beautiful portraits of their newborn it opens a creative window.  It is so much more fun to have a color to run with and go from there.  I am always so much more happy with sessions like that.  Another thing that makes a family a favorite to work with is their avoidance of pinterest.  When clients come to me with a laundry list of pinterst ideas I groan inside.  Not because I’m not cool with stepping outside of my comfort zone and personal style.  It is because there is a flow and natural progress between poses in a newborn photography session.  I have taken years to develop the skill of going from one pose to another.  When you introduce things that are not part of that flow, or that I don’t have practice doing, I guarantee your session won’t go as smoothly as it would have otherwise.  Mostly, the thing that makes a family super awesome to work with, is being relaxed.  Reese’s parents are at the studio to celebrate the arrival of a baby.  There expectations are that I will do my job, there is no stress or worry.  As their Seattle newborn photographer, I recommend a clothing change for mom and dad.  We had done so many beautiful delicate pictures in white, pinks and creams.  Their black t shirts just wouldn’t do.  Fortunately they had brought white shirts.  But I had this dress in my studio wardrobe that I knew would look brilliant on Reese’s mom.  I knew it would add the perfect touch of romance and girlishness if you will.  I am so over the moon happy with Reese’s newborn portraits!  I know her parents will be too.  Thanks for being awesome clients!

Edgewood Newborn Photographer ~ Theo

Sometimes simple is best.  Well, actually, as an Edgewood newborn photographer, I really do believe that simple is ALWAYS best.  My work is most definitely classic.  But sometimes it is fun to step away from the rich organic tones that I most frequently use and do something bright and fresh.  I think “bright and fresh” lends itself very well to newborn photography.  Theo’s parents are repeat clients and wanted something a little more natural looking for their new son’s newborn photography session.  White was the way to go!  Theo, with his precious head of the softest hair was the star of the show.  Portraits like these will stand the test of time.  When I look at portraits of newborns stuffed into crochet turtle costumes, or surrounded by so many props that you can hardly see the perfect little baby in the image I have to scratch my head at it all.  Your baby is the most precious subject of each and every image when you come to me for newborn portraits.  Congratulations to Theo’s wonderful parents.  I am so excited that they had another son!  Theo and his big brother have so much fun in store for them!

I haven’t shared black and whites from a session in a long time.  As a Puyallup newborn photographer I offer color images and black and white conversions of those images to every client.  When it comes to sharing images from a newborn session I almost always choose to share color images from the session.  But with Ryan’s portrait session the black and white images were so moving they were my favorites.  So I put together a collage of my favorites.  Parents hire me to be their Puyallup newborn photographer because I offer class, timeless fine art images that capture the innocence of their new baby.  Another reason that Ryan’s portrait session stands out as extra special is that I had the opportunity to work with his older siblings.  Two beautiful, very cooperative big sisters.  I am really hoping that his mommy feels like I knocked it out of the park.  I am so in love with these images! I also tried a new pose.  It is a hanging pose done with baby lying on a bean bag and meant to mimic a hanging pose.  I think I will call it a floating pose.  In my opinion it turned out beautifully.  What do you think?

I love cake smash sessions.  Peyton’s mom hired me to be her Sammamish baby photographer and capture her daughter’s one year milestone with a party in the studio.  Peyton was ravenous.  We could barely hold her off with yummy yogurt drops.  I just knew that once we put out the cake for her cake smash she would be all over it.  She LOVED the frosting.  Not so interested in throwing cake to all four corners of the studio (thank you Peyton), but all about sucking on fingers covered with sugary goo.  I love babies!  I love watching them discover things for the first time.  That is my favorite thing about being a Sammamish baby photographer.  Even though in this case, Peyton had already discovered the wonders of cake, she was so fun to watch.  Balloons were a close second to the cake.  I’m not sure what it was that she loved most about them.  I think it was the sound of hitting them.  She didn’t get to take her balloons home because they were so covered in frosting that they wouldn’t even float any more.  Peyton is adorable!  I am so glad I got to see her for a session and to capture her blossoming personality for her parents!  Happy birthday baby girl!
