Puyallup Baby Photographer ~ Julia

Just finishing up all the little details for this little lady’s cake smash photography session.  She is adorable of course.  We had to feed her with fruit puffs her entire session.  Those things are miracle workers I tell you.  Worth every penny you spend on them at the grocery store and often times are the one thing that saves a session!  As long as those little puffs of yumminess were coming miss Julia was on board.  She was a quick little thing.  Both her mommy and I got a good work out at her session.  Makes you wonder why you look forward to your baby’s mobility so much, lol!  Little people are so perfect when all they can do is sit.  I wish that milestone lasted longer.  Julia is full of spunky personality and I’m so glad we captured some of that in her portraits.  Happy birthday little lady!

Valentine Mini Session Fundraiser

Here are the details!

Please read them so there won’t be any surprises as this is not your TYPICAL mini session provided by a photography studio.

My daughter Emily and her friend Rachel, need to earn money to get themselves down to Peru next summer where they want to serve a service mission to build a new school, practice their Spanish and spend a day sight seeing.  The amount of money they need to earn is a little overwhelming.  This idea was born while brainstorming how to help them make this happen themselves.  These girls are amazing with kids, and have a lot of photography experience.  Here is how it will work.

At 7:00 this evening I will release the schedule for this Saturday’s Valentines event.  There will be 36 10 minute time slots available to choose from.  Signing up is first come, first serve.

When you go to sign up for your slot you will be required to pay your $20 fee up front.  That way we won’t have any no shows and loose valuable spots to people that don’t come.  I will be using Paypal as the portal to collect the session fees.  You do not have to have an account.  You can use your credit card without having an account.

If you are lucky enough to secure yourself a time slot, all you have to do is select your little one’s outfit and wait until Saturday.

We will see you at the mini session event on Saturday.  Please have your child come in their outfit so that we don’t loose any of your valuable time.  You have 10 minutes.  If you are late then you will only have a few minutes. Once you get here you will let us know which backdrop you prefer.  They are both featured in the flyer.  So think about which one will work best with the outfit your kiddo is wearing.

Here is my studio address:  12426 136th Ave E Puyallup 98374  Please park on the street so that you don’t get blocked in.

Emily (my daughter) and Rachel (her BFF) will be working in the studio to capture that one perfect picture of your sweet heart.  I will have all the equipment set up for them.  Basically they will be working as a team to coax a bright smile out of your youngster and to push the shutter button on the camera.  I will be there the WHOLE time and overseeing ever session.  But I want the girls to do the work.  Remember this is a FUNDRAISER!  Imagine pictures with Santa in the mall, but having super fun girls, a professional who cares about your portraits and 100% of the proceeds going to an excellent cause!  You win because you get to come home with a super affordable valentine portrait and we win because your contribution helps these girls reach their goals.

There is only one child per portrait time slot.  So NO SIBLING photos.  If you have three children, and you want pictures of them all you have to grab and pay for three time slots

Pictures will be edited over the weekend and delivered on Monday, February 1st via email.

If this goes as great as we are thinking and hoping it will, we will offer themed mini sessions for every major holiday this year!

Any questions?  Feel free to post them in the comments below!

We are excited to see you there!!!

I discovered a new song that I LOVE while editing this sweet little lady’s session.  It is funny how music can take your emotions to another level.  I always get a little emotional editing newborn photography sessions.  I just love the miracle that newborn babies are.  And I Love Love Love that I get to be part of the celebration of bringing a new baby home.  Ivy’s parents came to see me from Seattle for their portrait session.  Their little princess was such an excellent little lady.  I am so excited to share her session images with her Mom and Dad.  And this song….

Small Bump

You were just a small bump unborn, in four months you’re brought to life,
You might be left with my hair, but you’ll have your mother’s eyes,
I’ll hold your body in my hands be as gentle as I can,
And now your scan on my unmade plans,
Small bump, in four months you’re brought to life

I’ll hold you tightly, I’ll give you nothing but truth,
If you’re not inside me, I’ll put my future in you

You are my one, and only
You can wrap your fingers round my thumb and hold me tight
Oh you are my one, and only
You can wrap your fingers round my thumb and hold me tight
And you’ll be alright.

You’re just a small bump unknown and you’ll grow into your skin
With a smile like hers and a dimple beneath your chin
(Oh) Finger nails the size of a half grain of rice

And eyelids closed to be soon opened wide a small bump,
In four months you’ll open your eyes

I’ll hold you tightly, I’ll give you nothing but truth,
If you’re not inside me, I’ll put my future in you

You are my one, and only
You can wrap your fingers round my thumb and hold me tight
Oh you are my one, and only
You can wrap your fingers round my thumb and hold me tight
And you’ll be alright

I feel like children are born bad listeners.  From the moment they are born they start to disobey.  As a brand new mom you whisper fervently into their ear about how perfect they are, and how perfect you feel and how this moment is the very best moment of all the moments ever.  And then you ask them for one simple thing after giving them life.  Please stay little.  Don’t grow up.  Be my baby forever.  And then at the very next stroke of the clock they commence in the breaking of your heart as they begin their race (it seems like a race) to adulthood.  Fortunately they throw in little perks to soften the blow.  Like the first time they smile at you and it is a real smile, not a gas induced smoke screen.  When they learn your name, that’s a pretty good one.  One of my favorites was getting to hold a chubby little baby hand as my littles learned to walk.  They know how to throw some good bones our way Moms.  But don’t ever forget, they are little wish breakers.

Thank goodness for portraits!  What a tender mercy baby photography is.  And thank the Lord it has improved over the ages to be what it is today. Without pictures that perfectly freeze in time all of those perfect, melt your heart out moments….I just don’t know what us poor moms would do!  Baby photography is the only way that your baby can possibly stay a baby forever.  Every single time you look back at that picture of your baby girl with her precocious little grin and chubby little cheeks, you get pulled back like a yo yo on a string to that moment.

Pictures are the antidote to time.

Puyallup Newborn Photographer ~ Sophia

“Babies are soft. Anyone looking at them can see the tender, fragile skin and know it for the rose-leaf softness that invites a finger’s touch. But when you live with them and love them, you feel the softness going inward, the round-cheeked flesh wobbly as custard, the boneless splay of the tiny hands. Their joints are melted rubber, and even when you kiss them hard, in the passion of loving their existence, your lips sink down and seem never to find bone. Holding them against you, they melt and mold, as though they might at any moment flow back into your body.

But from the very start, there is that small streak of steel within each child. That thing that says “I am,” and forms the core of personality.

In the second year, the bone hardens and the child stands upright, skull wide and solid, a helmet protecting the softness within. And “I am” grows, too. Looking at them, you can almost see it, sturdy as heartwood, glowing through the translucent flesh.

The bones of the face emerge at six, and the soul within is fixed at seven. The process of encapsulation goes on, to reach its peak in the glossy shell of adolescence, when all softness then is hidden under the nacreous layers of the multiple new personalities that teenagers try on to guard themselves.

In the next years, the hardening spreads from the center, as one finds and fixes the facets of the soul, until “I am” is set, delicate and detailed as an insect in amber.”   – Diana Gabaldon

Baby Sophia is soft, and plump and every thing tender and fresh about the world.  But she is already saying “I am”.  I am so excited for her family to discover just what she is saying over this next year as she grows and learns and tells the world more about herself!
