I had a wonderful baby photography session this last week with a sweet mom from Ft. Lewis. She has a little boy and just had her second child, a precious baby girl. Little Laela was a little angel for her newborn photography session. There is a lot of research to prove that pets and baby animals have healing capabilities. They have been used in hospitals, with returning soldiers from war, with orphaned children…the list goes on and on. I feel like the same must be so about babies of the human variety. I was in the middle of a really tough week (personally) when Laela came to the studio for her newborn portraits. As I held her in my hands, rocking her to sleep, she put everything in perspective for me. Life melted away and I was only in that moment with that perfect little girl and her beautiful mother as we celebrated the beginning of her life. No matter what your theological belief are, their is something special and powerful about having a baby in your home. Their innocence is contagious. Their love complete. They have a power to heal souls. I love my job. Being a baby photographer means that several times a week I have the pleasure of having a baby in my home. I am constantly reminded through them of the best of everything there is. I love this quote..
“A Baby will make love stronger, days shorter, night longer, bankroll smaller, homes happier,
clothes shabbier, the past forgotten, and the future worth living for.” -unknown
I am so thankful to be a part of celebrating the arrival of a new baby. Being a newborn photographer brings me so much joy. Celebrating a baby’s first moments with a family is such an honor. Thank you to Laela’s family for choosing me to be your photographer and for inviting me to be part of the arrival of your precious baby.

I think so!
I am a baby photographer. I have a weakness for babies. I am totally in love with baby giggles and smiles. I love meeting new families and finding ways to connect with them during the time that they come to visit me in my studio. I love that friends and past clients trust me enough to refer their friends to me for baby and newborn portraits. Baby milestones are so special. I am addicted to catching them on camera.

Being a baby photographer means that I have a stash of carefully chosen props that are perfect for taking newborn portraits! All of my props are chosen with these criteria in mind. They must be comfortable for baby and easy to pose baby in. They can not be flashy as to take the attention away from the baby. They must be quality props that fit with my brand. One of the things that I love about pails and buckets like this is that they help me to get excellent pictures of babies with their older siblings. The pail allows me to pose the baby at a level that is more workable when photographing a child as well. I love crafting beautiful portraits with my prop stash.

I love taking portraits of parents with their newborn when they come for their baby photography session. Being a newborn photographer means capturing that brand new infatuation. Those first few days of holding your brand new piece of perfect are pure joy. Parents don’t always feel up for having portraits taken right after bringing a newborn home from the hospital. This beautiful couple wanted to be “blurry in the background”. But they had hired me and getting images with them in focus is my job. I tried to paint a picture for them about how much these portraits were going to mean to them and to their little girl. Of all the beautiful images I took at their session the ones with them holding their daughter in their arms are the most important. That day and every day they held their future and now they will always remember those poignant moments of falling in love with a 7 pound bundle of perfection.

Little Ethan’s parents came from Issaquah for their newborn photography session with me. It will be one of many, many times that they make a personal sacrifice for the benefit of their baby. Issaquah is not close. But that is what being a parent of a newborn is all about. It start with the minute your baby is born and doesn’t stop ever. Ever after we die I imagine that us parents will be trying to intervene at every possible moment, as guardian angels. There is a quote that I love that I have quoted here on the blog before.
“Making the decision to have a child – it is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. ”
– Elizabeth Stone
