All newborn photographers must by nature be total saps. I think that must be true. We love babies. We love “special” moments. We love “love”. In my case I am also a total sap for song lyrics. When a newborn photography session touches my heart in a special way I almost always have a song in my head. That was the case with Kaylee’s session. As I edited her session the song, “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack ran through my head. I remember when that song first came out, I had just had my first daughter. It hit me to my very core. It makes me get teary every time I hear it. Kaylee and her Sister are such beautiful girls. My two hours with them was enough to see how sweet life will be for the Moore family. Two beautiful daughters. I hope they dance!

As a newborn photographer here in western Washington I have met many wonderful colleagues. I haven’t have the privilege of meeting them all in person. And not all of them live anywhere near me. Because I am always on the look out for inspiration, quality training and the very best accents and props for my studio I have made connections across the world. Being around so many young families as they hire me to be their newborn photographer I am constantly reminded of that phase in my own life. The early years. The years I thought would kill me and bury me alive. And now I call those years the “good years”. Sometimes you just can tell how blessed you are in the moment. When your family is young there is so much to do. So many responsibilities. You worry. But you also have tiny newborns to snuggle, chubby toddler hands to hold, the complete adoration of youngsters…
It is so cliche, those phrases and quotes that suggest you will miss those Good ‘Ol Days. But there is truth there. I wish I had slowed down a bit back then. I wish I had enjoyed the moments, instead of anxiously awaiting the end of each phase and the beginning of another.
Let ever day be a “good day”. It is a choice, a state of mind.

Madigan, this portrait of you is pure baby. Pure perfection. Pure. No props. No backdrops. Just a beautiful baby, her flawless baby skin, a sweet baby bonnet and crystal blue eyes. We weren’t putting on a show, clapping and singing trying to make her smile. We were letting her be herself, to have her own moment. This is the type of portrait that becomes a family heirloom. I am so in love. Being a baby photographer is the best job in the whole world…other than being a mom!
