I feel like in order to be the best maternity photographer you have to be able to capture a woman at her best, feeling her best. Some of that is in posing. Some of that is letting the right emotions bubble to the surface. Matching the mood of a background with the mood of your portrait is when you really hit the jackpot. That is what I feel happened here. Stephanie was our last model on our workshop day. We were definitely “chasing” the light. But with the right ingredients available to us ( a beautiful woman, a beautiful day and a beautiful spot) we were able to capture that Ah-Ha moment. This is my favorite. I LOVE it so much. I hope Stephanie loves it and has a huge beautiful canvas printed for her home.
We had a lovely family model for us at our Tacoma Maternity workshop. Their little girl was so precious and really wanted to be her mom. Her Mom was getting all the attention. We took a moment to get some great one on one bonding pictures with the of them together. She is so into her mom and loves her so much. I love seeing mothers and daughters so close to each other. These two are best friends. This picture captures that closeness that they have together. I am super excited to see this wonderful family grow when they welcome their little boy later this summer.
Meet Kjersten, our second model from the workshop I hosted last week. She came to us from Idaho for her maternity portraits. When Kjersten applied to be a model and I saw that beautiful auburn hair, I knew I had to have this maternity dress for her. I had seen it in a vendors shop a while back. And thoughts of adding it to my maternity wardrobe collection kept tugging at my mind. Once we settled on having Kjersten model for us I was pulling the trigger. It came the day of the workshop, talk about barely making it in time.
One of the great things about having a professional to learn from in person is learning the little itty bitty things that they do to nudge subjects into a flawless pose. I really feel like Briony is an expert at posing women. She has a gift with making pregnant moms feel comfortable. Having experienced pregnancy on her own she knows how much she is asking of her clients, when it is OK to push them into a position and when it is not going to work for a specific client. She had excellent tips for quickly taking clients from one pose to the next to maximize her time with them. I loved watching her at her work. I had a vision in my mind that Briony captured perfectly with her posing of this image. A demur, pregnant princess.
This last week I had the pleasure of hosting Briony Bohm Photography at my home studio for a maternity workshop. I had the most amazing women apply to be models for our workshop attendees. Ann Marie was our first model for the day. She had a pretty busy day. Maternity portraits in the morning, a baby shower in the afternoon, and then one week later her little man arrived. Ann Marie and her hubby had a sweet chemistry. I loved seeing them together. I didn’t catch how long they have been together, but it seemed like they were newly weds. He was so attentive to her. It was pretty cute.
The best thing about having a super talented photographer come to your home is that she can teach you how to really utilize your space. Briony taught me how to take advantage of my beautiful yard. I am glad that all of the hours of work can benefit my clients from now on. If you book a maternity session with me from here on out you will probably get a tour of my yard. I love learning. And I love that I know how new beautiful backdrops to take advantage of to provide my clients with stunning portraits of their special life moments.
Congrats Ann Marie on the arrival of baby Hank!
I got to be a true Western Washington Maternity photographer this last weekend. I went on on a grand adventure with three dear friends to some of the most beautiful places in the world in order to take stunning maternity portraits of my friend Meghan. Our 19 hour road trip yielded us some really amazing works of art. Photography is so much fun when you are doing it with friends. We photographed Meghan in waterfalls, moss laden forests, picturesque beaches and fairy tale settings that only my beautiful state could provide. I feel like the images I shot for my friend are the best maternity photography images I have ever taken. Thanks to some really wonderful ladies and their help. With their guidance I braved the big outdoor world. Check out their work!
