Almost every time a client emails me about a one year session for their little one it starts out something along the lines of, “Can you believe it?  _______ is turning one!”  No.  No I can’t.  How is it that time flies so fast in the happy moments of life.  Right now in my stage of parenting I look at my kids and think I only have 3 more summers with her at home!  SLOW DOWN TIME!  As a young mother I was so caught up in the next phase.  Or the very understandable desire for my babies to obtain milestones that made them more independent.  Like walking.  I hated the crawling phase.  Or like learning to entertain themselves.  Because there is only so much time you can immerse yourself into the world of ponies and bionicles without feeling like your brains are turning into pudding.  I wish my older, wiser self could have visited the young mother me and told me how much I was going to miss it all.  Snuggles, holding a pudgy hand, cuddling together on the couch a reading a book, giggles on the swing, constant love notes, etc…  Now with two in college I feel desperate to even hear from them once a week.  Brooks is full of toddler zeal.  I am sure he is the apple of his mother’s eye.  He is curious and sweet and super adorable.  And one day he will be off on his own adventures.  Thank goodness for beautiful portraits to mule over and reminisce all those wonderful good times that incapsilate his toddler-hood.  Motherhood is hard.  It is exhausting.  It can feeling like down right warfare sometimes.  But it is also the most rewarding soulfully fulfilling profession in the world!
